As with many fan cultures, there are mirror events for real world events. Currently, there's the tour de fleece, mirroring tour de france. I'm doing a fair amount of spinning for this event, recognizing I'll miss the last two weeks because I'll be in Shanghai.

I spun this for a team working on the 'friendship thread' in Bothwell, Tasmania. The fiber is from NZ and was gifted to me by one of the spinning teachers. One ply is natural grey brown and the other I dyed purple. (You can see where I ran out of natural and ended up with purple plyed with purple.) WT liked the two tone color so much he has asked if I could make him a sweater with it, so I'm dyeing more, the color will be close but not quite the same.

This is my 'big' project, spinning enough to make a sweater for myself. Again, it's all dyed by me, this time from a yellow base. It's getting tedious but at least I'm using the faster woolen spinning technique. I won't finish during the tour, but at least I'll have a great start on this project and by the time I'm done with this I'll have mastered the techniques involved.

I'm having trouble with the idea that I'm leaving in a week for Shanghai. It's giving me nerves just thinking about it.

I am impressed by your skill at this (to me) arcane art. Especially with a major trip upcoming.

Spinning has, oddly enough, become my little escape time. It demands such a focus on the physical skills I'm trying to master that I can block out all the nervous making stuff. LOL!

I am in awe ... same as J ... I really wouldn't have the patience first of all ... and I doubt it would be something I would pick up unfortunately ... my hand-eye coordination can be appalling sometimes.

And that purple up top .... I'm not surprised by the request. It is a beautiful colour with gorgeous toning.

I'm really good at mind numbing repetitive tasks. Loved doing math problems as a kid as long as they were all the same. I'm not sure this is a virtue!
