Woohoo!!!
Dragged handsome off to look at Michaleas and tree peonies and wound up coming home with Phyllostachys vivax, Japanese timber bamboo. I have been wanting timber bamboo for years and years, but they're all runners and therefore invasive ... this time, the spouse had the perfect place in mind for this plant (maybe not sunny enough ...). Still. Yea yea yeah! (Though it will be at least three or four years before it's settled in enough to be able to harvest bamboo shoots from it.)
The Chinese timber bamboos aren't as fast growing, or as hardy in this climate, but generally taller. The black bamboo, which has black laquered stems, isn't tall enough for what we need. Oh well, can't have everything.
The Michalea are really lovely, but will have to wait till next spring. I have to get rid of the old apple trees so there's a place for it.
Tomorrow is an all day excursion to LinuxFest, when I could be home watching Taiwanese dramas with the enthused fan. Sigh. We've now added 'Jin', 'Mike', 'Danson', and some more boys to the list of targets. Either way, I don't get to make progress on WoXin, and I think I've just come to the good part - where the ladies are threatening to burn down the palace if they're invaded.
