Food meme, from flemmings.
What's the last thing you ate?
Russian Tea Cookie. It's cookie making weekend, though with the spouse gone, a child immersed in studying for an oral exam, and no cookie making friends over, we only got around to making Russian tea cookies (traditional almond and almond-chocolate ones). The rest of the cookie making will have to wait for next weekend. I miss A&B! I could always count on B for cookie making and A for coming over at the end to eat cookies and drink wine.
What's your favorite cheese?
Swiss. Hands down, Kerry Irish Gold swiss.
What's your favorite fish?
Eh? Possibly trout?
What's your favorite fruit?
Can't decide between anything orange (oranges, mandarin oranges, etc.) and watermelon. More accurately, anything at the beginning of the season and nothing at the end of the season.
When, if ever, did you start liking olives?
Never. Don't dislike them, though. Was fond of them back when we were eating the cans of pitted black ones when the kids were little. But that was because they would stick them on all their fingers and thumbs and run around waving their hands like madmen, not because I liked the olives.
When, if ever, did you start liking beer?
Never. Milk stouts can be okay in ml quantities once a decade or so. The rest of it is fabulous in cooking, but not as a drink.
When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish?
As a child. Dad would bring home crabs every time he went to D.C. for meetings and they were in season. They're heavenly when eaten Chinese/Shanghainese style - steamed and dipped in white vinegar with too much shredded ginger. Can't eat them at all when served western style with butter. The butter completely ruins them.
What was the best thing your parent/s used to make?
My mom used to make stir fried pork liver. No one has ever been able to duplicate that.
What's the native specialty of your home town?
Steak on the grill.
What's your comfort food?
Congee. Plain. With pickled cucumbers.
What's your favorite type of chocolate?
Don't care for chocolate.
How do you like your steak?
au poivre, flambe, cognac and cream
How do you like your burger?
with veggies on top
How do you like your eggs?
tea'd
How do you like your potatoes?
Give me rice. Shoestring fried is okay.
How do you take your coffee?
In ice cream, exclusively.
How do you take your tea?
Straight.
What's your favorite mug?
One. Ninja Kakashi. Two.CanCat on a quilt on a laundry line. Unfortunately, it's gotten too damp to hang laundry out for the rest of the year.
What's your cookie of choice?
Ginger molasses, the chewy spicy kind.
What's your ideal breakfast?
Oatmeal.
What's your ideal sandwich?
Anything hot, with sauerkraut especially. Which reminds me, I need to remember not to get the brie and pear chutney sandwiches at the local sandwich store, the chutney completely overwhelms the brie.
What's your ideal pizza (topping and base)?
Base: crispy and thin. Topping: salad.
What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)?
Savory. Those tiny baked Chinese beef curry dumplings (hand pies). British steak and kidney is not bad either.
